Whose Kashmir!!!

September 18, 2010

I have been following the news on Kashmir for quite a time now and have watched several debates, read numerous articles and thus thought of writing my own views on it. In fact I just want to put forward few queries that I have regarding Kashmir and the issue connected with it.

To begin with I would like to say that any article on this topic is bound to be imperfect as it has got to do with the emotions and sentiments of so many people. I pray from the core of my heart that the Kashmir issue gets solved as soon as possible and no more innocent people should lose life. Along with this I pray that we rise above the issue of religion and region and think beyond. Life is beautiful; you just have to have an open mind to enjoy it.

So here goes my queries and I leave the answers to the readers’ comprehension and prudence. Fair enough?

  1. Who has stakes in Kashmir?  Is it only the people in Kashmir?
  2. Why is that the Jammu and the Ladakh region not protesting while the valley is?
  3. If at all we agree on Independence of Kashmir shouldn’t it be before asking all the Kashmiri Pandits to re occupy their lost lands and with all the temples which were destroyed in last 63 years be rebuilt? After all, weren’t they part of Kashmir before the independence?
  4. I have heard from few sections on media that the main cause of upheaval and the discontentment among the people is because the Kashmiri’s are not treated on par with other Indians in other states. But is this the real problem or is it that Kashmiri’s don’t want anything but Independence?
  5. Following the previous question if the reason is negligence then don’t you think the section 370 is doing nothing but adding to the misery of people? Shouldn’t they have exactly the same laws and rules as any other state? (Including, demilitarization, removing of AFSPA, free trade, tax, education, facilities, business establishment by people from outside the state, owning real estate etc.)
  6. If I have to believe that the only cause for the protest is seeking Independence then why is that the people in POK not seeking similar freedom, after all it was part of Kashmir? How come the thinking of people across the LOC is different, is the condition of people in POK better than what we have in Kashmir? This makes me think, had the Pakistan occupied all of the Kashmir, would there be similar protests for freedom then!!! ( I would love to hear YES)
  7. People are asking for demilitarization of Kashmir (including me, except on the borders), do you really think that the Army is enjoying their stay in the Kashmir rather being deployed at the borders, doing what they love to do that is guarding our country?
  8. If people don’t want men in uniform to guard 24X7 and if army doesn’t want to play the role of watchman, then who\what is forcing them to be present there?
  9. If the government says that Kashmir is an integral part of India, then why is that they don’t create an environment of free movement of people in and out of valley as we have between other Indian states? Why can not a person from other state not buy property of have stakes in industries there?
  10. What are the possibilities if the government agrees to the independence of Kashmir, other similar demands would creep up from other parts of the India? I dare say that for a long time the NE India has been totally ignored by the government of India and if people in other parts of India are demanding independence it is because of the apathy and insensitivity shown by our government and no one else.

Finally coming to my own views and my take on the possibilities in the future, we could have one of these conditions:

1. Independence of Kashmir: I am not saying that this should happen but if this ever happens, there should be few things that should happen along with it. First the POK should also be integrated with Kashmir and made independent, which I doubt would happen. Second as expressed in the views above, all the Kashmiri’s Pandits be allowed to retain there land and properties. All the temples demolished should be resurrected by the people who demolished it. They have as much as stake in Kashmir as Kashmiri’s Muslims. After all the King of J&K was himself a Hindu. Having said that, if the people from Jammu, Ladakh and POK don’t agree on an independent state then it would be hard job to come to any conclusion.

2. Leave the vicious circle of deaths, defiance and negligence as it has been for last 63 years: This could be the worse thing that can happen to Kashmir and its people. This would be nothing less than a slow poison which would ultimately annihilate the entire region if not the entire country.

3. Bring the people of Kashmir under confidence by providing all the freedom and rights enjoyed be any other Indian in any other state:  This according to me could be the best thing that should happen to Kashmir. The government I must say had lost the plot by being complacent after the election in the state where more that 60% of the people took part. Thinking of “aaal is well” was not the best of the Ideas. Since we don’t have the rewind button in our lives, we should be thinking of how well we can gain the confidence of the people.

4. Have a plebiscite and make each and every one from J&K, POK, COK(China Occupied Kashmir) to participate. According to the percentage of votes received for Independence or for India or for Pakistan, divide the area accordingly in that proportion: This should be the last resort. At least the people would think that justice has been done.

Having said all this, if any of the outcome forces even a single inch of Kashmir to be cut apart from the mainland India, it would be playing with the emotions of 100crore Indians who have grown learning Kashmir as an integral part of India, who take pride in the natural beauty of the land, who know Kashmir as the “Taj” of our country, who believe it to be among the most sacred places in the world and who just can’t see a part of theirs being cut away.

May we all have peace!!

Dog’s Life!!!

September 9, 2010

Dog’s Life

To start with this is not about the life of people in IT industry. It is indeed about the life of dogs. (No pun intended)

Today when my parents asked me to come with them to buy some FMCGs (Fast Moving Consumer Goods – Both Durables and Non Durables) from the Canteen, I was bit reluctant as I usually don’t like going out for these stuffs. Anyway I went with them coz I was told that I would be driving the Car, which I really love to do that too in this lovely weather. Nevertheless my dad drove the first half and it seemed that he wanted some one to be with him when he takes the car to the main road, I was the victim 🙂

But that was just the usual part of it. We reached Hamla in next 10mins or so. Ok, ok, ok I forgot to mention that my dad is an ex-navy, so he is liable to avail the canteen facilities provided by the Navy and Hamla is a Naval base here in Malad. After the formalities of registering our names, address and number at the main gate we proceeded towards the Canteen. For some reason, the car was not allowed inside the campus.

It’s quite a small canteen compared to others that I have seen in Navy, and that’s understandable as the population here too is comparatively less.

As we entered inside, it was quite depressing to see huge queue for the bill. About 25 people were ahead of us and no one behind. (Looks like CET question of quant like find the position where I am standing in the queue…..:)…ok ok that was a poor PJ). So 10mins in the canteen, I was screening through all the healthcare products available with them, and to my surprise I saw a very old acquaintance from my school (obviously not among the healthcare products) standing in the queue. I was seeing him after 8 years or so, he was my senior. We had nice little chat.

So all of you reading must be thinking where am I heading, where are the *&^$ing dogs!! Don’t worry they are on their way and remember *&^$ing is an integral part of this incident :).

So, now that my old friend was busy with all the FMCG products, Mom and Dad lost somewhere into some other section, perhaps in the agro based section where we get wheat, rice, pulses etc; I was alone and then I thought that standing idle in the queue is such a waste of time, so I came out of the canteen. Just behind the canteen was the seashore (this is the best part of Navy, seashore cannot be more that a km away, no matter where you are in the country and in this case it was hardly 25mts away, I mean just behind).

As I was standing on the embankment and the vast sea line in front of me, I was just lost in the moment. It was so relaxing to be at that serene place. As the place was a restricted area there was nobody around except for few securities and couple of officers for their evening walk, that too far away. But other than that there were no human, but hey there were around 4-5 similar looking creatures about 500mts away, and yes this story is inspired by them, they were our Indian dogs!!

What would kids do if they are left free, they would run around, jump, kick each other, fall, get up, run again, jump so on until they get tired and sleep. The dogs were doing the same thing. Through the lovely monsoon breeze and light drizzle I stood there watching them carefully. I just love to watch animals or for that matter people (pun unintended) when they are not watching me.

As I was watching them (from quite a distance) suddenly four of the dogs (one black, one brown, and two in white-black shade) started running as if in a competition, believe me, they were real fast. We don’t get to see the dogs run that fast for that long in the main city but here they didn’t had to fear the humans or anyone else and the entire stretch of the shore was theirs. After running for a km or so one of them (the brown one) kept on running (he was also the fastest) and the other three stopped and started playing with each other, jumping on each other, harmlessly biting etc. And then there was another dog a black one, just behind me watching those dogs running and also watching me. I guess he would have published his own version of blog – Human’s Life!! Anyway, I diverted my attention to this dog and saw a fear in him coz he was hesitant to come close as he was standing few meters away, I just made sound of aa…aaaa…aaaaa, and in no time he came right in front of me wagging his tail to the extremes. He was free from any fear that he previously had and now he was just moving around me and then sat there enjoying the lovely weather.

Standing beside him I took my attention back to the sprinters, I realized that the brown dog who just kept on running had disappeared, may be reached another beach for some hot bitch! Another thing that I realized was that the black dog was a female one and other two in white-black shades were definitely male and perhaps brothers. Now started the real “raas-leela” as one the male dog started getting cosy with the female one, trying to jump from the behind (you know for what!), but the female was lady with substance, she didn’t yield to his demand. The male dog kept on getting close to where it matters and this black dog kept on denying him. Things got interesting when the other dog (white-black shade) too started getting cosy with the lady and there is no prize for guessing that this pissed off the other male dog who now became quite aggressive. Since they all were friends (I am sure they were) the little spat between the two male dogs never took an ugly turn but each of the male dog were trying to impress the female by howling at each other trying to bring other down to the ground but neither of them cheated by biting, it was a fair game. The lady dog was nicely enjoying the “bhaav” she was getting from the two males, she was just going round each of them but never let any one of them to come too close to her. This got me wondering if she knew that the dog that was sitting beside me and watching all this was from “emotional atyaachaar” and spying on her at behest of her BF\Husband.

Then something happened that made me laugh out loud at the two male dogs. During the fight to show their supremacy the dogs often barked at each other. Now hearing their barks, there came another dog (a brown one) from nowhere. This one was not the same dog which kept on running and perhaps is still running (Mr Bolt). This one was quite big in size and looked stronger than all of them. He came from behind me and saw the scene between the three dogs and ran furiously towards the site, I thought he was another of a despo but that was not the case. Watching this dog approaching, the two male dogs stopped fighting and took 5-10 steps behind and stood motionless. Even more surprising was, when this lady dog ran towards this brown dog as if a wife explaining his husband about the hooligans who were trying to take advantage of her being alone that too in that lovely weather. Now the two male dogs were absolute quite not saying a word, this macho brown dog went to each of the other male dog and howled at them, both the male dogs were hiding their tale below their butts (which is a sign of surrender). I was expecting real fight between them but nothing happened, he just growled at each of the dogs, and they were already on to the ground. Anyway by looking at the two black-white dogs it never seemed like they are in for any contest. This brown dog then went behind his lady black dog, smelled her behind, confirmed that she is pure and then the couple sat beside each other. The other two too sat but at a distance from the couple (respect see, even they respect the privacy of the couples, or rather don’t have any other choice).  I was really laughing at this incident.

To my surprise there was another stranger incident still to happen. Just before I realized that I have kept my FMCG products in the queue for the bill and thought of leaving the scene at that point, I heard a loud hooter which went on for about 2mins or so and to my amusement all the four dogs at the scene (dog beside me had left by now, perhaps to spy on some one else) stood and started howling loud in UNISON! Just like the way wolves do. I was taken aback as they usually do it when they cry and something bad happens. Anyway I left that place, cool breeze had just picked up the speed and grey clouds had intensified and night almost approaching.

As soon a reached the canteen I saw my Mom and Dad coming out of it, they had just finished with the billing (that is what I call Just in time). We reached the main gate of Hamla and there we also came to know that the hooter that had sounded few minutes back was actually for a fire drill!!

At last I just would like to say that the peace that I found today amid the cool breeze flowing from the south-west, that tiny little droplets falling from the grey sky, the sound of the waves splashing the rocks, the breath of pure air, and yes the strange but lovely life of the dogs, perhaps can not be equated with any other thing in the world. It was unique; actually we do come across these kinds of incidents very often but are too busy to observe them.

So next time when you say that you are leading a Dog’s Life…think again!!!

The most difficult questions to answer – part2

June 6, 2010

I assume that you have read the part1 of this two part series of “questions that are most difficult to answer”.

Without wasting any time let me start with my 6th question:

What is good and what is bad or evil? What is moral? What is ethical? Who decides good and bad, right and wrong; and by what standard? Is there an absolute standard of good and bad beyond one’s the personal opinions? Should good and bad be determined by custom, by rational law, or by the situation? What if the decisions of others (society, authorities, laws, etc) determining good and bad are contrary to one’s personal beliefs or freedoms? ¯should you obey others or follow your own conscience? Moreover, if as an answer to FIVE, we do not have free will but are ruled by outside factors, what difference does good and bad make? ¯we have no choice. If so, we have no responsibility for doing bad.

I will make it this way. Any work\action of yours if doesn’t hurt anyone including you, then you should go ahead with your work\action. So whenever in doubt we can wait for a second and ask a simple question weather this would hurt anyone. Having said that the army personals for an example should not think this way while fighting a war on the border, he should be thinking what will happen if I let this guy go away 🙂

I think we should judge a person not by how many good qualities he\she has but by number of bad qualities, lesser the bad qualities better the person. It might be difficult to inculcate good behaviours but it is very difficult to let go the bad ones. I would rather stick to moving 2 steps forward and going 1 backward (India’s Progress) than moving two steps forward and three steps backward (Pakistan). Best option would be just moving one step forward, or just half step forward for that matter and not going back. Similarly, someone who thrashes you and then gives you a chocolate to console is definitely not better than someone who just gives you a smile. Having said, a person with absolute no good or bad qualities is also not desirable, as one of my friend had said, this would be more of a Robot than a human.

Note: This logic doesn’t apply to a situation when you act as a student. Like in the case of a strict teacher, parents, elders etc. This is the time when you learn. A parent who scolds you for your mistake is definitely better than one who just ignores all your mistakes. So here all the qualities of the parent who scolds his children on mistakes are considered good. An immature mind is bound to make mistakes, so our guardian’s work is to make them understand and show the correct path.

I don’t think religion makes us more ethical and moral in behaviour. It is us who does it. By the time we are 22-24yrs I think it is enough for us to judge what is wrong and what is not. This should come from commonsense and little bit of experience and for those who doesn’t like using their senses or wishes to have a guide book in hand can fall back to religious teaching, which I believe would provide the same sense and knowledge that you should have acquired by now. By the way, in my life the most crooked people I have seen are the most religious ones although the reverse in not true.

What if the decisions of others (society, authorities, laws etc) are not in sink with the decisions of ours? This can be possible, but then if you think you are right, you should raise voice and try to convince others, that is the max you can do. In a democracy you can definitely choose your candidate who thinks on similar lines as yours.
Why are things the way they are? How should things be ideally? What is the good life —for the individual and for the many (society)? What would a Utopian society, a heaven on earth, be like? Is it even possible to create a Utopia? If so, how? Would not a Utopia assure personal freedom? What, then, should you do with those who don’t cooperate and violate the Utopian system? If you control or punish them, is there no longer a Utopia?

Things are like the way they are because of the way we manage those things.  An ideal life in my view would be a time where there is no ego, no false pride, no envy, no hypocrisy, no violence, complete peace of mind, perfect balance between human and nature and above all, each individual be treated equally. This is why I believe those who are rich should help the poor in overcoming the life’s hurdles. Sponsoring a school, research institute, higher education, hospitals etc can be thought as the contributions that the rich could make.

Recently I read an article where they mentioned how in the name of religion people in the Arab countries were asked to contribute money for their brothers but then the money was being diverted to fund the TALIBAN. The entire infrastructure for arms and ammunitions are funded by rich individuals, who are threat to humanity. This is not limited to Taliban but is present everywhere, be it LTTE (ex), MAOISTS, etc. Really, it hurts to know that when there are people dying of poverty, others are funding money for radicalization of this world.

A utopian society would be one where all the differences are levelled out. Tolerance for other’s feelings is the greatest leveller and forcing your principals over others is the biggest crime.

What is the ideal relation between the individual and the state? Should the individual serve the state or the state serve the individual? What is the best form of government and what is the worst? When is a man justified in disobeying the dictates of the state? To what extent should the majority rule and thereby act against the freedom of the minorities? When is a man justified in rebelling against the established order and creating a new state? What are the relative merits of the different economic systems (capitalism, communism, etc.).

As M.K.Gandhi has said “Be the change you wish to see in this world”. So changing ourselves would mean changing the state. Now it is up to us if we need to change it for the good or bad. Undoubtedly the best form of government is the democratic form, especially when your people belong to various religions, ethnicity, castes etc.

As far as rebelling against the established order goes, I would like to quote a sentence from the movie “Swades” – “Jo Sadiyon se chali aa rahi hai, wo zaroori nahi hai ki sahi ho”.

For rest of the answers, Google would do great :).
He who controls education controls the future. What is education? How should the young be educated—what is important and what not? Who should control education: the parents, the student, the society or the state? Should a student be taught to think for himself or to adopt the beliefs of the society? Should man be educated to be free and live for his own interests; or to subjugate his desires to serve others or the state? ¯see Question EIGHT.

Education is the single most medium which can bring all of us to a common platform. I believe in having a common education system for all of us so that each one of us is equally competitive. The stress should be laid more on wisdom rather on knowledge. The syllabus for the education system should be decided by people best in their respective fields. Each one of us should be trained to think by themselves rather following the society blindly. Ultimately it is people like us who make or break rules of society. The day we stop thinking would be the day we stop growing. I have personally felt that the problem with today’s education system is that, by the time you know what your strengths and interests are it is already bit late and you are already running a rat race, competing with thousands of other similar people. People should be encouraged to venture into unexplored or little known fields.

Man should be educated to be free and independent. He should be on his own, and then only can he think of giving to society what the society has given him.

Today the most radical people on this earth are those who are either completely illiterate or those who are educated (sans wisdom) but haven’t seen any struggle in life, everything to them has come the easy way.

What happens at death? Is death the end of everything or is there a soul in man that continues to exist beyond death? If so, is that soul immortal or does it too eventually cease to exist? If the soul does continue to exist after death, what is the nature of that existence? If there is an existence after death, is “good” rewarded and “bad” punished? If so, how do you reconcile this with the concept of predestination? And if there is a God of INFINITE LOVE and FORGIVENESS, how to you reconcile punishment?

This is again a tricky one with lots of possible answers, so I would state what I feel the ideal answer is and thus making the answer little bit biased :). I think life is like an exam and depending on the answers we give during this course we are directed to particular set of questions, and then to other set and so on and I would like to believe that after death we all are presented with our final marks that we have scored and along with that the correct solution for all the questions we have answered or left blank!! And may be we are ultimately presented with the answers of all the mysteries in the universe, after which our souls are dissolved in the particle that we call GOD. Rather than punishment or reward, hell or heaven, it would be Realization!! It would feel like heaven when you realize that most of the time you have been taking the right course and similarly it would be hell if you come to know that most of the time you have been doing wrong in your life. There is no point punishing or rewarding a soul, which could actually happen in your lifetime itself but the realization can not.

Happy reading….and get life, cheers!!!

Most difficult questions to answer – Part1

May 30, 2010

This is the PART-1 of the two part series which I am posting.

I have always wondered about things like the, Birth of Universe, Presence of God, The planets, Countless Stars, Religions etc and I know that answering these questions is the most difficult part for any of us mortals. Even if some one comes up with an answer, it is bound to be controversial and not all would subscribe to.

Before starting let me iterate that these are the most difficult questions to answer. I got these series of questions from “selfgrowth.com”. I have put my perspective to each of the questions below and hope to gather others perspective too. These questions are of type such that you can not apply logic, you cannot search in Google, and neither could you find the solution in any of the books. There might be as many perspectives as the number of people on this planet, but for that you need to think deep, a bit.

Let us commence.

What is the nature of the universe? Where does it come from? Of what is it made? How did it come to exist? What is its purpose? By what process does it change? Is it evolving or devolving? Does it function by itself or would it degenerate to chaos without some kind of intelligent control?

Universe is like irrational numbers, you never know the exact value of it, and if you try to find it, you will be lost in its intense pattern.

It doesn’t come from anywhere, because whatever possible “where” are “there” in the universe.

It is made of null, God perhaps forgot to do the “null check” 🙂

Actually the existence of universe is “the most” difficult single question to answer. And I bet I can argue with any one who wishes to answer it. I may not be able to prove myself right but I can prove them wrong, bring it on :). If you say it comes from something, then where does that “something” comes from and if you say it was already there then go take a tea break.

Purpose might be to act as a container. Like the contents of web pages on the web are all contained inside the <HTML> tag. So the universe might be like the <HTML> tag and everything else its content.

Does it change!!! If we go by Big Bang theory it is still expanding, but my question is if it is expanding then where is it stretching its boundary to. Consider a balloon, when we blow air inside, it expands because it has space to expand; maximum it can expand is the volume of the universe because it is contained inside the universe. If universe is expanding then it too needs to be inside something. So does it mean the universe doesn’t has any boundary, POSSIBLE.

God knows. Btw where is God? Inside the universe or outside the universe?

The functionality I believe depends on the activities of its content. It is like; does your behaviour control you age or your age control your behaviour?

Is there a Supreme Being? If so, what is His nature? Did He create the universe? Does He continue to control it personally and if so, at what level? What is his relationship with man? Does he intervene in the affairs of man? Is this Being good? If this Being is good and all-powerful, how can evil exist?

I thing yes! And he\she is above the Gods described in the religions of ours. The so called God might be a medium to experience the ultimate bliss, peace, fulfil our purpose in this universe etc.

It might be something that we haven’t comprehended till now. Something which is beyond our imaginations. It is hard to believe that the God has a human kind of structure.

Don’t know, doesn’t seems possible. Universe I think has left things in motion and seeks feedback from each atom inside it for deciding the next step. So instead of God, I believe it is we who decided the movement of events. He just fulfils our wish by processing our request depending on our action.

I think man has been bestowed with the responsibility of balancing the flora and fauna on this planet along with bringing each human on this planet to share the same platform and bring equality among all. Just like we have delegates and events in various programming languages, I believe man has been delegated the work to manage the planet better. All his events are ultimately notified to the feedback loop that takes decision for its next event. Today’s world runs on the Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest, but it is responsibility of fit people to lead the way for the unfit ones and make them what they are rather than leaving them behind to rot.

As said earlier the good and bad depends on the feedback loop, if we are able to manage the planet well the good feedback would trigger a positive event and likewise.

What is the place of man in the universe? Is man the highest fruit of the universe or is he just an insignificant speck in infinite space—or something in between? Does the spirit of man descend into matter from higher spiritual realms, or has it evolved from matter? Is the universe conscious or unconscious of man? If it is aware, is it warm and friendly to him, or cold and indifferent, or even hostile?

Can not say about the place in the Universe, but definitely man holds the highest place on the earth. He is like the CEO of the earth and responsible for anything that happens here.

When we take the universe into account and define the stature of man, the word insignificant looks insignificant.

I do think that the universe is conscious of man and tries its best to be conscious of each individual.

Depends on our action, the feedback loop decides whether it is warm, friendly, hostile etc.

What is reality? What is mind; what is thought? Is thought real? Which is superior: mind or matter? Has mind created matter or has matter evolved mind? Where do ideas come from? Does thought have any importance–does it make any difference in our lives–or is it just fantasy? What is Truth? Is there a universal Truth, true for all men forever, or is Truth relative or individual?

Duniya kya hai – Maya hai J. I believe reality is something that we can not envision so have to content with what we see.

Mind is like Universe where thoughts are like Humans.

If humans are real, thought too are real.

Mind doesn’t have boundaries, so can not compare it. Can you put a limit to what you can imagine?

Analogy explained in previous questions.

Truth is something that sends positive feedback to the loop and helps create positive events.

What determines the fate of each individual? Is man a creator and mover of his life, or does he live at the effect of forces over which he has little control? Does free will exist or are our lives determined by outside factors—and if so, what are those factors? How does life work: is there a Supreme Force that intervenes in our lives? Or is everything pre-determined from the beginning of time? Or is life just random, full of coincidence and accident? Or is there some other control mechanism we do not perceive?

Life indeed has some randomness in it. Some leads to positive outcomes, others to negative ones. But having said that we can not control these random events, as said for all the things, universe too is not perfect.

Controlling things to a very large extent is in our hands. It is like you go for the interview for a job, you might get selected in few of the companies and few other wont select you even if you were better than others depending on the mood, panellists, questions etc. After that say you get offer from 3 companies, you would finally be selecting one of them by considering all the pros and cons. So here you have controlled the outcome for over 95% of the events, but you not getting selected for some of the companies might be those 5% that you can not control. I believe for most of us if we think positively we realize that we have got what is best for us.

PS: I believe that at least 95% – 99% of things if not more are under out control. Our action decides the outcomes and our thought are as important as our actions. When it comes to the functioning of God I believe, depending on our actions and thought we are given choices to follow while considering other’s actions too. It is like when I request a page say “Google.com”, I am clear about my objective that is to get to the Google page. So my request then gets routed through various routes depending on the web traffic but ultimately I will reach the “Google” server. Choice that we have with us is to either use a 64kbps connection or 2Mbps connection, an ADSL or a Broadband etc :).

PART-2 arriving soon and “soon” is relative :).

Hope to get your perspectives on this post.

Time does it all!!

May 3, 2010

Time does it all!!

What is the importance of time in our lives? We hardly realize the changes that time brings in our usual thinking, if it is joy it fades gradually and again if its sorrow it does the same (time is really impartial). But don’t you think that, this very property of time makes us brittle in a sense that few unscrupulous people take it as an advantage for their use in a negative way. They just want us to forget!!

Let us begin our mini time journey:

After each and every blast that had jostled various cities of our country we have heard from the officials that they are very close to the perpetrators and would soon bring them to justice. The last one was in Pune’s German bakery where the inspector in charge was so confident that it seemed as if he already has nabbed the devil who is hiding behind him and it is just matter of some auspicious day when the devil will be revealed to the world. Few days past, things got back to normal and the police is still waiting for that auspicious day. We forget. No problems, it is in our genes.

Before that it was the case with 26\11, no one now cares about Kasab anymore, there would not be much reaction from the public if he is hanged tomorrow, because time has abated the hatred and anger, rather it is being forced upon us. What would hurt us more is the news we get to see in the papers about the amount of money being spent everyday to keep him alive.

Do we remember the series of bombs (around 20 or so) found at various places in Gujarat about a year or two back (look even I forgot the exact time). Those bombs which looked more like diapers than the lethal stuff. Some of them were found over the bonnet of cars, some caught on the roads taking sunbath and few hanging from the trees (may be a case of bombs committing suicide. Could be a perfect inclusive! report for India TV, “bomb ki aatmakatha. majboor hai wo bhi suicide karne ko”) . Would we ever come to know the real reason behind those orphan bombs?

If that is too hard to recollect then let us jump forward to the incident that happened outside the Chinnaswami stadium in Banglore (IPL semis). Who were the culprits? Last that I heard was that it was deed of someone involved in betting, which I think could be the true reason!
But if that is the case then it is shame on the country’s police force and the security. I don’t have to explain why!

Now let us jump back and forth in time (butterfly effect or is it Memento).
Sanjay Dutt!! Here you must be wondering how on earth he came in to the picture. Well this is because as far as my knowledge is concerned he is still on an INTERIM bail, the reason cited was the he report docs were not available at that point of time (definitely this is the work of our postal system :)). All knowledgeable people reading this please correct me if I am wrong coz all these stuffs I am saying is best to my knowledge so has a good chance of faltering, LOLZZ.

If you still have a doubt on our mental agility, then I have a question for you, is Modi still the chairman of IPL committee and what happened to the broil between BCCI and Modi? Though the answer might come in a later stage, I still think if one big gun goes off from this ditch of the cricket it will drag others too alongside. So in most probable case things might settle down unless Modi thinks otherwise and puts his ego before everything else.

Do I still remember about Madhu Koda?

Is someone still due in the “chara” ghotala?

There was some rumour about the Taj Corridor, what was that yaar!!!

2G or 3G who cares? Generations’ might change “neeyat” would not. Humming “Raja ko Rani se pyaar ho gaya…”.

Where is Ramalingam Raju these days, might be living under inhuman conditions I suppose!!!

Did someone teach me addition: Indian Airlines + Air India = Poor Fellow

Amernath land row, can someone tell me who is in the control of that Land now????

They were talking about some fake encounter in Delhi few months back, a police got martyred. Too hazy for me, what was that!!!

Does CRPF stand for “Central Reserve Pity Force”?

Is Amar Singh busy writing a book??

What was that uproar before the release of MNIK?

Why is BT Brinjal banned in India? May be coz “B” that stands for “bacterium” gives us disgusting feeling on hearing the name!

When was the last time when the Met department did NOT forecast of “normal rains”?

When was the last time the US did not make use of the word “Imminent” while declaring “threats”, I mean alerting us! 🙂

Something happened before the “sohaina” marriage, some lady dropped in the middle. Did something similar had happened while Abhishek Bacchan!! was getting married….too weak a memory 

Which is the first private school to reserve seats for poor\underprivileged kids?

Has Ganguly retired from international cricket…I think he is the epitome of hope :).

What has happened to an unknown trawler found off the coast of Arabian sea near Gujrat? Any news sir ji!

Hey people, who was “Ruchika”, and who was that unknown guy with a pencil knife in hand attacking tainted “khacchar” I mean “officher”. How often we see people missing targets, hmm.

Leave that, but hey I thought at least women don’t forget things easily. All ladies out there, where is women’s bill, rajya sabha se lok sabha jane tak puncture ho gaya hoga (in the Delhi’s heat)!!

Green day…Plastics were supposed to be banned from March or Apr (don’t exactly remember) in Mumbai, they forgot to specify the year I suppose.

Mr. Raj Thakaray has got dozens of cases registered against him across the country, so are those papers\files being sold in “raddi!!”
Just getting a funny feeling right now, if all the files and papers related to pending cases in our Judicial System are sold in “raddi”, I think our GDP could grow by another 0.5%. Subbarao, PC, Montek Uncle are you all listening!! I just produced a master-stroke.

I am still confused if BJP is with Shibu Soren or is it vice versa. Only thing that is confirmed is that they are together.

BJP in its election campaign last year had declared that most of the Black Money generated in our country goes to the famous Swiss bank. May be they have now compromised with the other parties and politicians. They would not commit the same mistake that Modi (IPL wala Modi) did!!

Who were behind Godhra? Two committees and two different results, anyways both the committee members, are millionaires by now.

Who were behind the stone pelting incidents in Kashmir? I believe they were the police personals who don’t get enough bullets to practice, so started making stones as their tools in case of a terrorist attacks, what more, you might have a bullet proof jacket but who provides you the stone proof jacket, isn’t it!!

Pragya thakur!! I definitely have heard of this name.

Asharam Bapu, “bache” hain kya…I mean are “kids” their!!!

So many human right violations in the NE States, so many atrocious rules, and so many blasts on a regular basis, can the government give me a date after which I would stop following these incidents and would make my mind believe that NE stands for NEGLECTED states.

BTW What is the capital of Mizoram!!!!!!

Do remember.

“Time might forget itself and name it as History,
Hope that History is not forgotten”.

Now you can afford to forget 🙂

Happy reading….

The inside story – Maoists

April 11, 2010

I have been hearing about menace of the Maoists for last 4-5 years (since I started following NEWS sincerely). Be it terrorists or Maoists the only thing that puzzles me and only question I wanted to ask the intellectuals is that how do these beasts get the Money and Resource to accomplish their devilish work. I always believe that those who supply arms or sponsor these activities are as much responsible for the life of the innocents as those who actually commit it (Sanjay Dutt is still a villain in my eyes).

The bitter truth and the answer to my puzzle came to me when I was in a conversation with few of my relatives and close ones who had come from my native, Bihar, after a vacation. We all know that Bihar is one of the states which are badly infested with the naxal violence. So here is couple of anecdotes that had happened and that is prevalent at large.

One of my cousins close friend (his dad in fact) has a business in Jharkhand, a hugely popular textile business. They are making a killing from this business. But all is not well the way business is run. He had a brother few years back. Yes! He had one but not any more. His brother was brutally murdered by the Maoists. It so happened that the Maoists came to know that these people are making a good amount in the business so they abducted his brother and demanded a sum of 1crore 15 lakhs (can not fathom the amount), the family could only manage 60lacs. The result was that the Maoist took away the amount of 60lacs and in return sent the lifeless body of the kid. Yes! Their demand was not met. Since then this guy has never been to that place ever and his family has transferred to other state. Now they occasionally go their just to keep the account of their business. Worst part is that Maoists are still earning a healthy 10lacs per year from the business, that’s a contract now with the industries. Needless to say that police were hopeless and did nothing in the matter, rather could not do anything.

The other instance is from Bihar. What I heard from my relatives was just appalling. All those with good business be it in sugarcane factories, transport, cement business or any business which earns you good money, are under pressure from the Maoists of paying a yearly subscription of 2 lacs per year after paying a token amount of 50k Rs initially. These entire medium-big business people are getting letters at their doorstep with the details of contracts. The poor fellow (poor means helpless) don’t have any option but to agree with the contract or run away to some safer destinations. They just can not risk any of their family members.

The worst part is that the influence of Maoists is spreading its wings to a larger area in Bihar and other states; this is in stark contrast with the claims made by the government.

I have already burnt quite an amount of blood by thinking over these incidences and thinking of the future that might confront us. So have nothing to comment on these issues. Hope peace prevails in the end.

Keep praying…if you can not act!

PS:  These monsters might play in the guise of helping poor by hurting the rich….helping poor is what I agree, getting rich is your own choice…why not these people come  in open and demand for the equality in a democratic way….solving the inequality is been endowed to the government not to the self claimed Robin Hoods, and choosing the government is in our hands….having said this, I do believe that their is huge gap between the poor and rich in this country and it is widening day by day….we need to become more sensitive towards the need of the poor and government should make sure that the basic requirements are met at the ground level….hope some day we all find peace within….

Movie At 11!

April 3, 2010

Movies at 11:

I thought of writing this article just because of my passion for the movies.
So here are the top 11 movies that I have seen in past 3 year…and yes let me tell you that three year back I hardly used to watch any movie…hardly, not even the Bollywood ones. But now I make sure that I watch at least one movie a week from my huge collection of the movies (All NON BOLLYWOOD).

Before starting let me clarify that the sequence in which the description of the movies appear, doesn’t indicate my rankings coz it is too difficult for me to rate one above the other. Though I should say that the first two movies are my favorites ranked 1 and 2 and rest are among my personal top 11 list in random order.

The Pursuit of Happyness: I don’t have any doubts in declaring this movie as the best movie ever. There is not a single point that goes against the movie. Mind blowing acting and amazing chemistry between the father-son along with the emotions involved makes it the topmost movie in my list. You can actually relate it with lives of many common people who emerge victorious against all odds. You have to watch it if you need to find the definition of happiness and how painful can the struggle be for most of the people who are not lucky enough to be born rich.

Reasons to watch:
1.    The truth of life is being portrayed and the excellent chemistry between the father and a son. By the way the son in the movie is also the Will Smith’s real son.
2.    Proves the importance of perseverance, hard work and determination in life. You can achieve anything and against all odds if you have those two.
3.    Based on a real story.
4.    Doesn’t have any gore, violence, nudity, blasphemy, etc. You can all watch it with your family.
5.    No comments on the acting, specially the Will Smith. I am too small to judge his brilliance in the movie. It looks so real.
6.    One of the movies that bring tears to my eyes every time I see it.

The Shawshank Redemption: Again a clear winner and deserves being the number one movie on the IMDB top 250 lists. Just because I am bit emotional and love things that actually happens around in the real world, I have put the above movie as my top favorite.
If you have any doubts that a lone, helpless person can not do anything great in this world, just go ahead and watch this movie. Nothing beats the power of determination and patience. One thing I have learnt from this movie is that you don’t have to tell your enemy that you are killing (defeating) him until he realizes that he is already dead.

Reasons to watch:
1.    Awesome acting.
2.    Core thing is that when you know that you are true and honest no matter what are you up to, you will emerge as a winner and even if someone with all the authorities and power is against you, you can still defeat him if you have confidence in you. This includes even if you are alone fighting against the entire world that too in a nonviolent way.
3.    Another thing it teaches is the importance of patience in life. Believe me (or at least the movie) your enemy would just hate to see this quality in you as it is not everyone’s cup of tea.
4.    Again it doesn’t have any gore, little bit of prison violence, no nudity, no blasphemy, etc. You can all watch it with your family.
5.    Do listen for the unforgettable and inspiring dialogues\quotes in the movie.

The Prestige:
Want to know what is obsession? This movie is for you. Setup in the era around the end of 19th century this movie has got a tremendous screenplay. The movie clearly epitomizes the common desire of getting more famous than the other. That was the time when people used to work for a sole reason that they just loved their work, penchant for money never tempted the humans of that era. This movie also proves how much do people are ready to sacrifice just to prove that they are better than someone else.

Watch the movie for:
1.    Lovely screenplay.
2.    Lovely acting.
3.    Lovely theme.
4.    MEANING OF OBSESSION!
5.    Also for one of the most beautiful woman on earth – Scarlett Johansson
Btw you can watch this with your parents 🙂

The Usual Suspects:
If you love to get puzzled, if you love movie’s CLIMAX that makes you go crazy and if you love deceiving people, this movie is for you. It has got the best climax among all the movies I have seen till now. That’s a big thing to say, but it is true.
Watch out for:
1.    Exceptional acting (actually it goes with out saying that all these 11 movies fulfills this criteria that is acting!!!)
2.    Mind blowing CLIMAX! (don’t take in other way :-))
3.    The teaching, that never underestimate the weak, and often it happens that what appears in reality is just an illusion and what appears to be unreal is what the reality is.
4.    Do I need to say more?

The Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind:
Interesting one and especially for those who are in a relationship and often fight over trivial issues. Now I hope more people are gonna watch this movie :-). Staring Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey, interesting pair indeed, this movie has something in it that makes you watch it more and more and strengthens your belief in LOVE, I mean the true LOVE!
Watch out for:
1.    Extra ordinary theme\story. Believe me if I pen down in just a small paragraph the gist of the story, there wont be a single person who would be able to resist watching the movie.
2.    After the movie you will be assured that true love can never be washed away and it remains with you for rest of your life.
3.    The direction and the concept of the movie, just awesome.
4.    Again the climax, it gives you Goosebumps.
5.    No gore or violence in the movie.

City Of God:
Caution before, this one has got loads of violence. And I am pretty sure that girls would not like the movie as much as guys would. This movie depicts the real slum story of “Rio De Janeiro” in Brazil. It is all about the life in slums, the gang wars, and the eternal cycle of shift in power. It is a strong movie which maintains the tempo from beginning till the end.

Watch out for:
1.    The reality depicted in the movie. No where does it makes you feel that it is a reel story but real.
2.    The brilliant screenplay and dialogues (watch them carefully).
3.    Importance of law, order and education in any society.
4.    The false belief that you can be in power for eternity.
5.    Revenge and redemption.
Only minor problem you might have is the subtitles as the movie is not in English. Good if you could get the dubbed version but in no way does it take away the brilliance in the movie.

Schindeller’s List:
This movie has been the favorites of many people and rightly so. If some one wants to know the details of barbaric act against the Jews by the Nazis, this movie tells it all. The holocaust and the horrendous, inhumanity against the poor Jews really brings tears to your eyes. The best part is the change of heart of a Nazi officer (mind you, a spoiler) and the sympathy he shows towards the Jews. Truly amazing!!
Watch out for:
1.    The life, how we are better off and how cruel can life can be for others (God where were you).
2.    It is based on a real story.
3.    Jews frightful condition under the Nazis and their endurance.
4.    A Human amid the devils.
5.    Above all the MR. SCHINDELLER.

Life is beautiful:
Just one word BEAUTIFUL. It is a classic piece of art. This movie makes you believe that in spite of the precarious situation you can still survive by being yourself, being calm and enjoying the way you live, because life indeed is beautiful. I bet this movie will have a lasting impression in your life, at least for the father-son duo. Like the above movie this one too is about the Nazi’s treatment against the Jews but has far lesser violence and more aligned to the life in a Ghetto and the love of a father towards his son.
Watch out for:

1.    Father’s love towards his son and his effort to protect him at any cost.
2.    The pathetic condition of Jews (getting different kind of feeling after writing about the above movie and this one, I pray those conditions never arises in the future ever and may God give peace to those helpless souls).
3.    How can we make our life less complicated by just being what we are?
4.    Essence of the movie.

Titanic:
I just love sea and ships. This movie was always in my top movies list. Above that the romance just makes it even more compelling. I can watch it 100times (bit exaggerated:-)) and still would not get bored.
Watch out for:
1.    Romance and love.
2.    Life on a ship.
3.    How people from different social strata being in the same ship live life in an entirely different fashion.
4.    Breathtaking scenes while it sinks.

Babel:
This one is of a genre where you see different stories running in parallel and often having a common string that binds them together. I personally love these kinds of movies. The movie has got stories from different location on the earth but each one connected to other. It really amazes me the way the director has seamlessly captured the essence of the respective geography. Again this is one of the movies that may move you into tears (keep napkins handy:-)).
Watch out for:
1.    The life in different parts of world.
2.    Though being so far from each other we all have some kind of problems in the life, so everything being uncommon the problems definitely are common as are love and hatred for that matter.
3.    How cruel and unfair the life can be to us, but above all how can we rise against all odds and emerge triumphant.
4.    How deeply the emotions are attached and how important they are for each one of us.

Memento:
This one is truly UNIQUE and I don’t think we have any other movie of this kind (not sure actually).
One thing I will tell you in advance is that this movie made my head go round and round and round when I saw it for the first time. This is because almost the entire movie is in backward timeline, two minutes of live and then 15 minutes backward, two minutes of live and then 30mins backward, so on and so forth (again a spoiler).

Watch out for:
1.    Incredible concept, direction and acting.
2.    The CLIMAX again, mind blowing.
3.    Full length of thrill and suspense.
4.    The perplexity of a person that the actor is.
5.    Where do Bollywood movies get the ideas from 🙂

By no means are these the best movies ever made but definitely worth watching once (at least). Other than these movies I would like to recommend few more which are equally worthy of being in the top 11.
Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Donnie Darko, A Beautiful Mind, GoodFellas, Godfather and many more…..

Few excellent animation movies for me are: (Top 5)
Kung Fu Panda, Horton Hears a Woo, Finding Nemo, Over the hedge, Ice Age – 1
PS: I love all the animation movies, and make sure that I watch them at least once. Kung Fu Panda is the undisputed king of this genre.
To be frank I could just go on writing about so many other excellent movies coz I feel as if I am not doing justice to them, but then these are my final top 11 movies (TILL NOW). Do pour in with your valuable comments, recommendations, and suggestions. Would love to hear your top three movies of all time (NON BOLLYWOOD please).

Cheers!!!

A Query!!

March 23, 2010

Recently one of my friend asked me a very thought provoking question. The question was, “why do the girls have to always look good and why is it not as much important for the guys?” Indeed a thought provoking one!!

There were gust of thoughts to this query, so I thought to jot it down, will be forwarding it to my friend and will put the internet in CC. This is going to be an interactive one so please be alert and most importantly THINK!!!

A note before commencing, these are solely my views and therefore bound to be incorrect, illogical, asinine etc. Read at your own discretion.

Here we go:
1.    Let me ask you all one question, first to all the girls reading this, how would you feel when you and your hubby\BF is walking into a Mall with your guy’s arm nicely curled around you, and you leaning a bit on his broad shoulder (I assume that your relatives are missing from the scene, if you are not married yet)?
Now for the guys, same condition but in place of hubby\BF consider wife\GF and yes relatives are still missing:-).

Definitely I would get more affirmative nods for the first case; this is because one necessary need for any girl is SECURITY. It is in the nature, in their genes that females don’t feel as secure as their male counterparts, many might disagree but it is still a fact. Before moving ahead one thing I want to clarify is that as the world is zooming ahead and women getting more and more independent (Women reservation bill would come handy…hopefully), things are changing and for the better, but still it will need many decades for that particular gene of theirs to wane out completely.
By default men are physically stronger than women, and this is true for entire animal planet. For this very reason female in the animal kingdom usually mate with the strongest male in the group (can not guarantee about their extra marital affairs :-)).

I thing this much is enough to put my first point forward that women like to feel secure and they feel secure mostly when a man accompanies her (not 100% true, I accept). Gist of first point: Female when kid – Father\Mother, Female when teenager – Father\Brother, Female when adult – BF\Husband; Male when kid – Father\Mother, Male when teenager – I am the KING, Male when adult – I am still the KING.

2.    I have heard from many of my female colleagues that they don’t look at a man’s wallet before falling in love, they look at their nature. This might be true but when it comes to marriage or for serious relationship I can not DISAGREE more (not all women though). When I say this I don’t mean that women are materialistic, but in comparison to men I do think they have an upper hand here (no arguments please, I WIN), and yes FINANCIAL strength of a man play another important (not THE important) role for a women to decide on long term relation. So why is this so?
The reason is not very different from my first point, SECURITY. In today’s world money means security, more money implicitly means more security and that is what women want in long run. So a man doesn’t need to be “brad pitt” by looks but might need as much money as him. This is the reason why guys are more ambitious, they want to make money and believe me that money is not for him but for you gals :-). Before proceeding let me again clarify that it might not hold true for most of the women\men but may be for higher percentage of mass and I am talking taking into account the entire globe and not just India.

3.    Yet another reason why women do all those makeups and men don’t is seeking ATTENTION. Again by default men are outgoing, more extroverts, flirts etc etc. (have to accept that things are reversing at a quick pace). Women would always want to be approached rather she approaching a guy. So what will make her do that, yup GORGEOUS looks. Walk beside your targeted guy with your best fitting attire, favorite perfume put on, making your dead cells (hair style, nails) speak the seducing words for you etc. Hopefully your targeted guy will be floored and you get your fish. Only because unlike guys, girls normally don’t directly go to a guy and complements him on his appearance, physique, intelligence etc, so naturally they have to have another way of saying “hey dude, I like you, now come, follow me”. On a more serious note they have to impress the guy’s parents, relatives etc and have to look good looks for that.
When a couple gets married, most of the people who come to attend the reception speak about the bride and her appearance, not as much for the groom. If the groom is not that handsome, they might just shrug it off and say, “acha kamata haga”. Girls definitely don’t have this luck. SAD SAD SAD!!!

Funniest part is even when the groom is not handsome at all, our mommy “log” find him cute, adorable, and ideal, but the bride need to be dead gorgeous to get a good comment from them (definitely they think they all were “madhubala” or “meena kumari” in their age).

4.    One more reason is the competition! If she can look that good, then why can not me? All kaya clinics, Batra, lakme, ponds etc thrive on this very nature of women. On the other hand men don’t have this feeling of competition as far as the looks are concerned (fair and handsome definitely didn’t took off). Again as I said he can be a hulk, handsome, intelligent, jolly, funny, cute or all of them.

5.    Last reason which I think most of the girls would subscribe to is, “we try to look good only for ourselves and no one else” and I totally disagree with this because I know it is not the case (no arguments please, I WIN). They just love being complimented.

You are beautiful!!! Thank God that he created you 🙂

PS: I wrote this article just because I wanted to write something in response to that query. Most of the point stand void for many women\men but what I have expressed is what I feel might be the common thing (at least 33% true)….and as always few people are just not common they are exceptional like me :-).

Happy reading…

MADADD:

I thought of writing this article only after the last ODI between India and SA. For more than a year the NEO Sports has been telecasting the matches involving India, be it in India or abroad.

Now here is what I think could happen in future. If India doesn’t perform well in few of the matches, which I pray doesn’t happen, the TRPs of the matches would go down like hell. Only because, like me many of my colleagues are now fed up with the frequency at which the channel take BREAK between the overs and sometimes during the over too. In the recently concluded series we were devoid of the best of cricket. There were many instances where few of the balls bowled were not shown at all. And quite regularly as soon as the last ball is bowled the break is taken, and then the ADD runs until the bowler reaches the umpire for the next over. This kind of broadcast and the money hungry broadcasters are ruining the quality of cricket. Gone are the days when we had enjoyed the captains call between the overs, the chat between the batsman and fielders, boundary fielders interacting with the crowd, umpires chatting with the players, and above all the terrific commentary etc. Now even when two player collide while fielding, these poor broadcaster don’t hesitate in taking break and we never come to know what exactly had happened. Breaks are taken even when a player had reached his century or had hit six\four\taken a wicket on the last ball of the over. What a shame!! Cricket is not only just bowler bowling at the batsman and batsman hitting it. It is much more than that. I would have really boycotted the series had India not played well.

This might also be the reason why cricket is not that famous compared to soccer, golf, F1, or tennis.

Having said all this let me take some positives out of this. Now that I have seen same advertisement repeating umpteenth of time, I can comment on few of those :-). Here are few categories into which I have segregated the ADDS into.

1.    Irrelevant Ones
A bikini clad women coming out of the sea on to the shore. First I thought it was a bikini ADD, then I thought may be an ADD by Goa tourism department to attract foreigners and to remind them that look people, Goa is safe!! But hey what does a cement company had to do with bikini or for that matter a woman. God saves JK Cement. Cheapo Cheapo, could have taken a better looking woman at least ;).

Why is Akshay kumar so desperate for a 25Rs Coke, common you don’t need to take so much of risk just for Rs25. If you need I can donate that much but please don’t put your life in jeopardy by doing those stunts. I get a feeling that those stunts were meant for dhoom-3 which Akshay might have fleeced from their director coz he did not cast him for the movie.

2.    Relevant Ones
Magician trying to make a palace invisible is astonished to see that though the palace is gone the paint still remains. Thumbs up Asian Paints.

From an irritating DOCOMO, DOCOMO, A-AA-A-O, DOCOMO to “friends share everything” is a huge leap forward for the Japanese-Indian joint establishment. Way to go dear, Vodafone and Airtel are way ahead in putting the best Adds forward.
Idea and Aircel have taken to saving the environment, great and noble idea. One can save trees so that tigers can leave peacefully for other, why don’t they merge…just a suggestion :-). The new entry by Spice is welcomed too; I am sure that it will give run for the money to discovery and animal planet. It is nice to see healthy competition between these service providers. Good for all of us:-). Expect SMS rates to come down as the call rates are already stagnant.

Although the service providers are coming out with brilliant ADDs the equipment makers are degrading the standards. Lava, Lemon, Onida(don’t try again), what not….at least could have chosen better names.

3.    In the middle
Volkswagen could have done better. Being such a huge brand, was expecting to come up with something new and one which appeal to Indian crowd.

“Why play akele”, join iBibo, again it is an OK OK Add, could have done better. By the way I created an account in iBibo, it looks a replica of facebook.

Looking for your suggestions and any other ADDs that come to your “zaham” 🙂

Missed my first BILLI!!!

January 31, 2010

Here we go:
This was for the first time that I was going to appear for the CAT exams. So here I was, all prepared for tomorrow and by preparation I mean the following:

Date: 4th December 2009
Venue: Thakur College (Management), Kandiwali(E)
Time: 10:00 AM
Only thing apart from this which comes under my ambit of preparedness is the CAT – 2008 Question Paper (with solution) that I had solved (by looking at the solutions) couple of days back. That’s all!!! There was obviously no chance for me to crack the CAT but still I was positive for tomorrow, you never know, as I always say that Luck can be sometimes very cruel (for others I mean). So assuming that others might mess up the paper I was all ready to roar and crack.

Anyway this year the exam pattern was changed from written, to computer based exam. Being very familiar with the computer based exams; my confidence was just about the overflow mark (OoOZing). Little more of it and IIM-A would come running after me.

Just before going to the bed I ran through the events that would occur the next day (I call it planning ahead). I had put an alarm for 7:30 AM, would be leaving home at around 8:35 AM on my flying rani (bike – CT100), reach there by 9:00, will come out of the exam room by 12:30 PM or so and  leave for my office (ya right, afternoon shit…I mean shift). Being all clear for tomorrow, along with the admit card I lied on the bed and soon went into the world of my own…kkhhrrrr khhhrrr….(just the background effect as I don’t snore ;)).

Snoooooooooze…..Snoooooooooze…..Sno!!! not this time!! wake up Nilesh, look at the time (voice from inside me). I obliged and woke up…..OMG, its 7:45 AM, already 15mins late….have to cover up for the lost time….took my brush and started thinking of how can I save 15mins from my routine now….anyways I managed some time by adjusting my usual time I spend for bath, wash!!!, and breakfast. It was 8:40 in the clock and I was ready to leave, Mom wished me luck and I left on my flying rani.

There wasn’t much of traffic but it still took me around 20mins to reach the venue. On reaching the college, I parked my bike near the main gate and started walking inside. Suddenly a watchman emerged from nowhere and asked me for my I-Card. At first moment I wondered do I have to show my office I-Card!!!…..and then realized it’s a college dude. I politely said that I have come for the Cat exam, he directed me to the gate number 5, I obliged. Left my bike there itself as the gate wasn’t that far. On my way few memories of engineering college freshened up, babes, dudes; ishtyle, immaturity, miStakes and of course exams….

At gate number five I was told by another watchman that it is actually the next gate, no problem I said and marched ahead. Finally came to the proper gate. I was expecting some crowd there, but to my surprise there were just two other guys like me with paper (admit card) in there hands and shouting something to the watchman there. As I went close I asked them what the matter was and why were they not going in, don’t they fear that they might get late for exam…..careless chaps. One of the guy told me that the gate is actually locked from inside and the authorities are not letting people inside anymore because it was already time and that they were LATE!! LATE!! LATE!! (imagine the word zooming in and out)…..did I hear correct….no this can not be true…there was indeed a pumpkin sized lock on the gate from inside and a watchman there oblivious of the abuses being hurled at him from the outside, was coolly taking a stroll.

Believe me I have never been late to any exams in my life till now, how could this happen. It was around 9:10 that time and the gate was closed. I was shocked actually that how on earth they could close the gate so early, as there was still 50mins for the exam. Shortly three of us were joined by two more latecomers, together we thought of doing something, as the gate was closed from inside and the watchman was not ready to listen a word. We first thought of climbing up the gate and jump on to other side but soon realized that coming bit late doesn’t mean that we lose our senses; this was indeed a bad option as we could run the risk of being thrown off the campus like dogs, and CATs. After five minutes or so when we saw that things are not going anywhere, I told those guys that we can enter from the previous gate (from which I was directed to this one), I told them that we would not ask anything at the gate and will just enter as if we were from the same college. That was a risk worth taking; coz even if we are caught we could very well tell them that we didn’t knew that we need to have the ICards. Plan was a major success :-), no one stopped us at the gate and soon we were outside the exam hall at the 2nd floor.

There were couple of attendants at the corner who actually got aghast at seeing us entering the floor. They asked us, who we were. We politely told them that we have come there for CAT exams. They thundered back at us, as how were we allowed to enter inside. We didn’t lie, and told them that we came by gate (that strolling watchman is now screwed), how else could we have reached here, by jumping over the gate!!! (idiots…). One of the attendants went up and called someone, may be the supervisor. In a minute or so he arrived and blasted at us and told us to leave the college ASAP. How could that *&%$*#$ talk to us in that way. We were very calm and polite and asked for apologies for being bit late. The gate was actually closed at 9:05AM and we were just 3-4 minutes late. The supervisor cooled down a bit and told us that the initial process is complete and students have already started taking exams and they were not allowed to entertain latecomers and there has been strict warning from the management. There were also cameras installed at various places in order to track all the process, so there was no way we could give exam now!!!! All our hopes were dashed at that very moment. We tried our best to convince him but all in vain, and when we refused to budge from there he got angry and warned us that if we didn’t leave now he would be calling the securities to throw us out.

I was the first one to take stairs downwards, others reluctantly followed. One of them in anger asked me why did I leave, I calmed him down and told him about the rules and all, in short all those crap things that the supervisor was telling us (but actually I was afraid of imagining my self being thrown out by the security guards). Coming out of the building, few other officials had gathered may be after listening to the arguments between that supervisor and us. Everyone took turns in making us understand their predicaments. During the discussions we came to know that the supervisor was actually the Principal of that college!!! (I and all faces which has slightest of resemblance to that of mine can be assured of not getting admission there). I asked one of the officials that we need to talk to the PROMETRICS (name should be very famous by now) officer who was in charge of the management there. They told us that there was no one from PROMETRIC but they do have left BIG BOSS (cameras) spread across the college\floors\rooms and perhaps inside loos too. Official present there were kind enough to suggest that we talk to the IIM center through there helpline number and let them know about the situation, which we had already tried but could not get to them as the lines were busy. We finally accepted the fact that we have screwed ourselves and we will not be writing the exam this year.

To be very honest I felt sorry for couple of those guys who were on verge of crying (who says Men don’t cry) coz they had given everything for the past one year. I had come there just to experience my first time luck in CAT, but still it felt like a big failure, perhaps bigger failure than getting zero percentile (I don’t think it is possible though).

It was a big learning lesson for me. I was aware that for the exam we were supposed to reach two hours before the actual time, but took it lightly as I thought its waste of time, reaching so early and might just be a cautious note from their side. I was seriously not aware of process like biometric, photos etc that happens before you write your exams. Really should have asked some one before hand, but as I said before….i took it lightly. I promised to myself that this kind of situation is not gonna repeat in my life again. Rarely do I think that I failed my self, today I did.

/* Gyaan Sagar  begins*/
Actual thing is that if you really have put your time and effort for something, you would never commit blunders like this, but when your mind don’t support your action, when you yourself is not 100% confident and dedicated you are bound to commit mistakes or take it lightly, just because you wont mind much if things turn sour afterwards.
/* Gyaan Sagar ends */

Post events were even more embarrassing; imagine answering your friends, parents, etc when they ask you HOW WAS THE CAT??
To which I politely say I MISSED THE BILLI!!!
